FAREWELL MESSAGE

Posted on July 2, 2011 in Uncategorized by elenaist

Dear students!

It took me a long while to write to you. My Cambridge program keeps me busy 24/7. I hope somebody will still read this :)

I’d  like to thank you for the incredible year we spent together. I can honestly say that I had one of me most joyful teaching experiences with you. You all are very special young individuals: talented, inquisitive, resourceful.

Some of you did not do as well as you (me or your parents) wished you would in grade  9. You’ve got three more years to prove how brilliant you are. I know that there are teachers you like more and there are those you like less, but regardless of whom you have to teach you English (or any other subject) next year, don’t forget that you are learning for YOURSELVES in the first place. And remember what I told you 9 months ago – nobody can teach you unless you want to learn. Your success is in your hands!

“SHOOT FOR THE MOON.

EVEN IF YOU MISS,

YOU’LL LAND AMONG THE STARS.”

Love,

Ms.V

P.S. for those who are interested, I’m in TEVITOL next year (a high school for talented and gifted children) :)

Hi!

I have made a few corrections in the Portfolio Checklist. Please see the new version on the Materials page.

There’s no Journal Entry for Bullying HO#2 (You were right, Ezgi!) but

I added one more Vocab Journal (for Language of News and Headlines)

Some of the vocab lists are on the Materials page (I put them in Word doc to make it easier for you), others are in the Homework section only.

FINAL EXAM

Posted on May 27, 2011 in Uncategorized by elenaist

finalexamHi all,

This time you need to:

  • Revise grammar from Units 1 to 6 (but focus mostly on 1-5). I advise you do it by going over the Grammar Builder at the back of the SB.

  • Vocabulary will not be tested directly but you need to know it. Otherwise, you might have difficulties with listening and reading sections. Look at the vocabulary journals and the vocabulary lists at the end of the WB (units 1-6)

  • You must know useful phrases to express opinion that we revised last week (to persuade sb of sm, to go along with the view that, etc.) and use them in your essays along with transitions.

  • Read the Opinion Essay Rubric before the exam. It will give you an idea of how you can get more points (and what for).

  • Essay is worth 72 points!!! Please look at p 54 (WB) and read the sample opinion essay as well as check SB p 66 – 67

  • The exam will be 60 min (last min change by the administration)

If you have questions, you are welcome to ask them in Language Problems page.

Have a good weekend!

Dear Students,Exam

I was told by the school administration that we (teachers) are not allowed to give you specific details about the questions that might come up on the exam. The only thing I can tell you is that you should:

Revise Unit 4 A, 4B and 4D

Look at the grammar builder (Modal Verbs)p 120 SB

Collective nouns p 133 SB

Vocabulary in Unit 4A

Go through the HWs in the WB

Don’t forget about the idioms in 4A and the 13 idioms on the blog (Homework page)

Revise the Reading Skills handout (remember the strategies I taught you in class)

Have a good Sunday,

!!! 9D and 9B, your HELP is needed !!!

Posted on February 22, 2011 in Uncategorized,What's new by elenaist

Dear Students (9D and 9B),         help_wanted

I have posted homework (for the week that I am not at school) on HOMEWORK page. 9A and 9C do not have the list of the 13 idioms that YOU have. So, I took a set of game cards home to make the list and put it on the blog. By mistake I took an incomplete set of cards, so 2 idioms from (Team B card) are missing. PLEASE, check what phrases I have missed and add them as a comment on the HOMEWORK page. Thank you very very much in advance,

Ms.V

P.S. Have a good week without me! I am sure you all will make me proud and all sub teachers will be envious that I have such great students! :)
